Talking about Prime Minister Modi’s role in bringing new tech companies to India and developing the nation’s tech infrastructure, Musk said, “I can tell he really wants to do the right thing for India. He wants to be open, he wants to support new businesses, of course, but at the same time make sure that it benefits India. I am a fan of Modi.”

Ahead of the trip, PM Modi said on Twitter, “In the US, I will also have the opportunity to meet business leaders, interact with the Indian community and meet thought leaders from various walks of life. We seek to deepen India-US relations in key areas such as trade, commerce, innovation, technology and the like. Musk replied to the tweet: “It was an honor to meet again”.

This is not the first time that Musk and Modi have met each other. The two previously met in 2015 when the latter visited the Tesla Motors factory in California.

“It was a fantastic meeting with the prime minister and I like him quite a lot. He visited our factory a few years ago. So we’ve known each other for a while,” Musk told reporters.

“I am incredibly excited about India’s future. I believe India has more promise than any major country in the world,” he added.
